Japan Expo Paris 2011 !!

Hi!

I'm off travelling to Paris again to join the Su-pah fun and huge event Japan Expo in Paris [Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre] from the 30th June to the 3rd July!!

I'm really excited for this as last year I had such an amazing time and will be travelling and sharing a table with talented and renowned Manga artists Chie Kutsuwada and Inko [Ai Takita-Lucas] from Umisen-Yamasen group.

I will be attending as Nipponaisuki bringing a few of my lastest works and some prints from fundraising project Art Blossom Japan. My day job has stopped me from producing loadz on new things as planned, but still it will be definitely fun!
My table number is Z246 in the hall 5A under the name "Umisen Nipponaisuki".

Hi all!

Have a new announcement of an exciting new alias I've been creating named DeadlyKawaii....I will be bouncing between this creating experimental pieces and Nipponaisuki. The styles will be slightly different and have plans for DeadlyKawaii to venture into 3 different areas, I will ofcourse show everything as I create it....aaaand will be creating the new D.K website which I will be working on over the summer!!

It has taken a while to create, but here's a quick look at the first artwork piece created under the new alias!! I will probably change and add a few bits but excited to finally release it!!

The artwork is entitled "Cyber Gyaru" with some very special calligraphy created for this debut piece.

Its gunna be a fun process creating works under these creative brands, so hopefully we'll see some exciting things being produced over the summer! >.<

The projects aim is raise funds for those affected by the Tsunami in Japan by offering a selection of exclusive, original and donated artworks from renowned Manga/ Comic artists and Illustrators from all corners of the world. We will be making available all the artworks coming in and have already contributions from renowned UK Manga artists Chie Kutsuwada, Sonia Leong, Zarina Liew, Inko and many more which we will be posting up!

Here's a few pics of the generous artists that already submitted their creations!

We are also happy to announce we will have some talented Japanese calligraphy artists donating their exquisite works.

Wa-no-wa event recap!

Hi all!

Had a great time at the Wa-no-wa fund raising event in central London on the 8th April! The event took place right beside the epic Tower bridge (I still always have the huge urge to paint those blue parts in black!) it was also such a clear sunny day to be out of the studio.

A huge thankyou to those that bought Nipponaisuki art with 50% going to the Red Cross, we was able to raise a decent amount on the day

Hi all!

Apologies for all the fundraising plugging lately, just offering something back to a place that has inspired me so much creatively!

I will be back with the regular programing of Artworks, new directions and events happening with Nipponaisuki......soon.

First off, want to mention Nipponaisuki will be attending a fun Japan fundraising event in Central London on the 8th April from 11am till 4pm named Wa-no-wa !!

Here are the details to what will seem to be a sweet, cute event with Japanese food & sake stalls, Art & craft stalls (Nipponaisuki), Calligraphy & Martial art performances all helping raising benefit funds for Japan.
I will be planning to offer some exclusive hand drawn items and sketches with proceeds going to the effort on the day!

Also I've donated my Grateful Crane Limited Edition print to the Ganbare Nippon project and Illustration Rally

Art Blossom Japan relief aid Art project

Hi!

It has been 11 days since the huge earthquake struck Japan on 11th March with a magnitude of 9.0 that occurred 80 miles away from Japan’s northern coast. Being the largest earthquake to hit Japan in its recorded history and the 4th largest worldwide, Japan has also been hit hard by Tsunami waves leaving a large wake of destruction and devastation. Moreover, Japan faces an ongoing battle to contain its Fukushima nuclear reactor plant, to ensure national and global safety.

Despite these tragic events, there are many stories of solidarity, compassion and fighting for survival emerging, offering much hope and inspiration.

To show their support and appreciation towards a country that first inspired them to pursue a life of creativity, Manga artist and Illustrator Juan-Carlos Cambón (DeadlyKawaii/ Nipponaisuki) and Master calligrapher Hiroko-Fukuda (art Project Wakoshi), have set up project ART BLOSSOM JAPAN to raise funding towards those directly affected by this natural disaster.

Working with talented Manga artist and Illustrators Zarina Liew (Cobalt Café), Inko and Chie Kutsuwada (Umisen-Yamasen), this project’s aim is to unite Manga-ka/Comic artists and Illustrators from all corners of the world to help raise funds towards supporting those who are without homes or have lost loved ones in Japan, by donating their artwork. ART BLOSSOM JAPAN does not stop here however as there is a more long-term goal to continue to donate towards charitable causes around the world.

This is a project created by artists, for artists, to come together and offer their unique skills and their blossoming creations to help and inspire others in need.

With Japan coming into its iconic spring “Hanami” Sakura blossoming season , this is a call for Manga/ Comic artists and Illustrators to let your creativity bloom and send a message of encouragement to help make the deeply artistic and cultural country of Japan blossom in full bloom once more!

Donated artwork from Artists will be displayed and sold through the Art Blossom Japan site, along with all the artists details, at the Artist's suggested price and 100% of all proceeds raised (minus shipping fees) will be donated to Red Cross Relief Aids and selected charities, with the aim to continue to help donate to causes around the world. Art Blossom Japan is a non-profit organization.

We are accepting originals and printed artwork submissions from Manga-ka/ Comic artists and Illustrators from around the world.
All submissions will be reviewed in the first instance and should have some reference to Japan.

Hi Yall!

Been busy working behind the scenes on some fun projects and some new directions which will be released early in the new year!!

Recently had my creative partner Hiroko Fukuda of art project Wakoshi was showcasing our collaboration works in New York! At the Japan Arts Matsuri event. Here are a few pics I received!

Hi all!

Gunna be playing around with content I post on my blog and adding a lot more additional posts on things/ people/ art/ music anything that I'm obsessed with and inspiring me [and I have a lot] So what do you guys think? let me know the type of things you'll be interested in me showing or reviewing and of course I'll be posting up new artworks and projects I'm working on!

So starting off with mentioning the music I've been obsessed with by artist JES [Jes Brieden]...I've got all her albums Disconnect / Hi Glow [Listen sample] and Into the Dawn [Remixes] and they are on constant repeat on my music players and each one is one of the best written complete albums I've heard, loving each and every song equally. My Favourite album has to be "Disconnect" but "Hi Glow" is awesome itself.

The thing that initially got me interested was the visual style she uses, quite futuristic and glam but also stylish and spiritual

and love her disconnect album cover styling and her logo design that is also her tattoo!

I even managed to get a signed poster and keychain from her which I'm super happy with as I'm a huge fan! :3
I'm surprised Jes isn't alot more recognised as her style of inspired soulful vocals and deep spiritual lyrics, subtle beatz and blend of high quality electonica really tops some of the greats for me. She has such a unique sound with very subtle hints of styles like Massive Attack, Gwen Stefani, Portishead, Björk, The Cure, No Doubt, lady Gaga and more, I wonder if she is actually inspired by these artists.

Halloween MCM Expo update!!

Hi all!

This is an update on the MCM Expo this Halloween weekend!! Had one of the most fun expo's events to date and meeting such lovely people and awesome cosplayers!

I Managed to get a pic with a cosplayer of one of my favourite characters "Yoko" from Gurren Lagann! This cosplayer is actually the talented manga-ka Ruth Keattch

Wanted to say a BIG thankyou to all those that visited my stall and all those that got sketches done...I will be adding all the pics of these on my Myspace page soon.

Was sharing the space with the hugely talented manga artists Inko & Chie of Umisen Yamasen
And got loadz of amazing artworks and self published mangas from artist friends at the event, here is a quick pic and some links to the artists^^

The whole Friday and weekend was full of meeting loads of people (friends/artists/fans) and was definitely one of the most enjoyable MCM events....would have loved to dress up in a gruelsome Halloween costume join in the fun but hopefully next time!

New Album artwork for Evil Geisha Rock!!

Here's an update on the CD design commission I've been working on for the awesome Japanese/ French music band Lamia Cross

Its been alot of work but here is a preview picture of the cover artwork for the new Lamia Cross album "Evil Geisha Rock"

It was really exciting to be their art director for this album and had a touch in the making of all aspects of the CD design/ logo design and merchandise which I will be able to show in more detail when officially released. I worked closely with my calligraphy partner Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi for this project.

Special update before Japan matsuri tmr!!

Hi all!

Its been a crazy run up these weeks getting ready for the Japan Matsuri event tomorrow!!

I should be packing!! Heheh but wanted to share with everyone some of the cool things I've created for the event that I'm really excited about!!

First up are these A1 size limited edition Kiminari-na Hana [Black Edition] prints that will be signed and stamped!! I've only been able to make 4 of these (>.>) and I think I'll be keeping 1! :p

Also I have the new Deadly Kunoichi and Kaminari canvas artwork plus some awesome limited edition A3 Bamboo gliclee prints of new artwork!!

And a full range of Nipponaisuki specially made goodiez!!!
There's also something cool I created which you'll see at my stall and will post up pics later^^

Nipponaisuki @ this years Japan Matsuri London!!!

Hi!

Been waiting till things were confirmed, but everything looks set for Nipponaisuki to be attending and holding a stall at the next Japan Matsuri London event happening on the 18th Sept from 10am till 8pm!!

I'm so excited to be able to join this event as one of its key features is the appreciation and enjoyment of Japanese culture here in Spitafields market in London!

The first large-scale urban matsuri took place in London’s historic Spitalfields Market in September 2009. Previously Matsuri had taken place in Hyde Park (1991 & 2001) but this was the first time a Japanese community celebration was held in the middle of a thriving modern mixed commercial and residential area. 2009 Japan Matsuri was a vibrant and colourful occasion, which attracted some 35,000 visitors (young and old, Japanese and non-Japanese)

Nipponaisuki has been working hard on new projects, merchandise and special hand painted art pieces created especially for the Matsuri! One of the pieces I'm really excited about is this mixed media canvas of my new work "Kaminari-no-Hana" & "Deadly Kunoichi"..I can't really begin to tell you how nice these canvas piece's came out! Exciting new project with Lamia Cross!!

Hi!!

Have so many announcements to make about different projects and events happening ....I'll start off with announcing a really exciting project I'm working on!!

While I was at the Paris Expo, I met up for a talk with the awesome band Lamia Cross We've been noticing each others works for a while and was so excited when they asked me to be there art designer for there next album, awesomely entitled: EVIL GEISHA ROCK!! What a cool album name to be letting Nipponaisuki get his paws on!!!

Also as part of the project, I've created there new logo design (which their already super happy with) I collaborated diligently with my creative calligraphy Partner Hiroko-Fukuda of art project Wakoshi in Japan to create Lamia Cross's unique logo

For the logo itself I really tried to give it an old traditional Japanese Kamon feel, to capture Lamia Cross's influences of old Japanese mythology/ poetry, Heavy rock elements supplied by Fab on guitars and with Lamia's captivating Japanese vocals (Lamia mixes the languages: Japanese, English, French in her lyrics and sometimes she sings in archaic Japanese) plus some awesome electro keyboard and programming!

I'm really excited to be working on this project as I think our styles mix well together and the band themselves are quite inspirational! I've already started collaborating with Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi for the calligraphy artwork for the CD!!

New artwork Kaminari-no-Hana aka [Evil Geisha]

Hi all!

Finally releasing a new piece I've been working on..... really enjoyed creating this piece.

Special mention goes to my creative partner and legend Hiroko-Fukuda & Suzuki-san of Wakoshi for creating all the exclusive calligraphy for my artworks! we're now forming part of a family team working on every project together.

The artwork title is "Kaminari-no-hana" [Evil Geisha]

The character is a complex villain from my manga novel I'm creating called "Zakura (Dark Nights of Tokyo)"...She has a unpredictable twisted personality and is possessed to fight by her cursed sword of thunder, which gives her tremendous powers, but the more she uses the sword powerfully,the more her life becomes shorter.
But she must fight, otherwise the cursed sword absorbs her life force. If she fights strong the sword will cover her in lighting like armor.

She can become immensely powerful when serious. But you'll have to read the manga when it is released to find out more! (^.-)b

Here is a close-up of some of the details.

The beautiful calligraphy to the left reads going down something along the lines of "Beautiful flower (meaning young women)" "Dysfunctional or crazy" "Very hard" & "Dance" so can be seen as "Gorgeous Dysfunctional hard dance" This can be interpreted with the feeling of the characters personality!
The cursed lightning Katana has glowing calligraphy running down it that reads "Kaminari" "shine/gleam" "fighting soul" "Thunderbolt"

I will also be creating limited edition prints and special canvas paintings of this artwork!!

Had a short break for a friends wedding and visit family and friends in Galicia...and managed to bring back a good piece of inspiration for all the new projects I'm working on.

Nipponaisuki at Japan Expo Paris update!!

Bonsoir!

Just got back from a really amazing time at Japan Expo in Paris 1st-4th July 2010! The event was 4 days of almost every aspect of Japanese culture, with so many martials arts demonstrations, game company area's showcasing latest games and the impressive showing of such talented artists and cosplayers!^^

A big ThankYou to all those who visited Nipponaisuki's stall and bought my range of artwork and also a special Merci Beaucoup to all those people who waited patiently to get a live manga portrait from me! It was a non-stop 4 days of solid sketching with me and fellow artist Inko of Umisen Yamasen, drawing most of the days for 9 hours straight with no breaks heheh, but enjoyed every second and especially meeting all the lovely people at the event!

You can view a collection of portraits pics and a few event pics I managed to snap, but honestly the event was so huge it was hard to capture!

I did manage to have a quick look around, but there was so many artist representing its hard to list them all but found some really amazing artists which I got a few great pieces from!

Was so impressed by artist "Poilis de martre" manga-esque/ graffiti style! I got this really cool bookmark and tag from him, we even managed to have a few conversations despite language barriers heheh

Also I found artist "Hime + You" by chance and was so blown away by the quality of her illustration and design...you can see a big influence of Junko-Mizuno style which I adore aswell...it was really great having the artist there to talk with and was so happy that she signed my prints. I knew her work was familiar and realised after I saw her lolita style illustrations in an artbook that has been inspiring a new piece im creating....amazing how I end up meeting her^^

On the last day it was really sad to be leaving the expo event as it really was a Otaku's heaven!! the next day we managed to get to visit the Eiffel towel just before we left...it was actually quite an epic and inspiring sight and a great finish to our trip!

Also met up with a really awesome band while I was in Paris which I'm going to be doing there CD design and promotion artwork for....I'm really excited about this project and will make a special post with all the details soon. I've heard a few of their new songs and there awesome!!

Hi all!

Had a great time at the ALCL event yesterday and had a chance to meet so many people and talented artists!! Will be trying to create a special links page for these soon.

Also wanted to say a big ThankYou to all those people that bought prints, badges, postcards and nearly all my pocket mirrors! Heheh.

It was great having the chance to talk to people and recieved so many requests for me to produce a manga and graphic novel of my charcters!!
As some of you may know, I'm already excitedly creating away my first manga novel "Zakura" Dark Nights of Tokyo...I am hoping for its release in Oct for MCM Expo. but have plans for it to be created with alot of detail and a special style, so it will be release only when its right! You can expect to see a special preview release at least, which I'll try to make as special as I can!

Also have Japan Expo in Paris coming up in a few days which I'm excitedly preparing for and also recieved a new CD design commission which I'm really excited about!! So I'm going to be taking a bit of time to focus on new artworks, manga novel and commissions, which means more previews and posts of new work!

Nipponaisuki at ALCL & on tour in Paris!!

Hi all!

Its been a great start to the year with new artworks, the MCM Expo, a whole new range of merchandise and now working on my new Manga novel plus 4 new artwork pieces and a secret project that's starting to blossom!!

Also, I'm excited to announce on the 1st-4th July Nipponaisuki will be on tour at the hugely popular Japan Expo 4 day event held in the city of Paris!!
Nipponaisuki will flexing a full range of artwork & merchandise, plus drawing live manga portraits and enjoying talking and meeting people!
I will be on the road with the amazingly talent girls and close friends from the Umisen-Yamasen group.Info for the event is: "From Manga to J-Pop, Cosplay shows to Martial Arts, the festival tackles as much traditional Japanese culture as contemporary pop culture.

Japan Expo is not a mere festival but a real party event! Among the many exhibitors you can find all the publishers of the Manga, Anime and video games markets, a great deal of shops, Young Designers under Japanese influence, as well as hundreds of fanzines and amateur booths.

The festival is also a place of amazing meetings between passionate people who like to gather around thousands activities: conferences, fashion shows, martial arts initiations, previews, Cosplay, Karaoke contests, video game tournaments, live concerts…

But Japan Expo would be nothing without its prestigious guests! Mangaka, character designers, singers, directors, authors… Coming from Japan, France and other countries they have the opportunity here to meet their public and other artists."

For those of you not able to attend the event in Paris, don't worry, just before I set off Nipponaisuki will be attending the ALCL event at London's Rocket complex on the 26th June....there you will be able to get your hands on some special products I've been creating especially for the Japan Expo event!!

Hi All!

Putting a quick post reminding everyone Nipponaisuki will be having a stall at the upcoming MCM Expo 29th-30th May at the Excel building, see here for all the details MCM EXPO

I've been preparing for quite a while and there's loadz of great new merchandise that will be freshly released and on sale for everyone attending!

Also, like at every MCM Expo event I will be offering live manga portraits for people!!
My stall will be in section V8 which is to the far right middle as you walk into the hall.

Nipponaisuki is also taking part of the fun "Dino saw us" artists sticker collecting game which so far has 30 confirmed artists taking part!!

These lovely 1.50" inch Handmade button badges of Nipponaisuki designs!

I spent a lot of time creating special packaging for my range of button badges....so I am proud to announce that on top of the badges being made using high quality parts and recycled Artpaper, the packaging design contains no staples, use's high quality recycled card and the packaging artwork doubles as an especially designed matching artwork card that is made from sustainable resources.The outer packaging can then also be recycled, leaving the whole design functional and environmentally friendly....oh and you get some awesome badges and a cute art card!!

Also releasing a new postcard series with new work Deadly Kunoichi and Blueprint Electronic and a funky revamp design of Harajuku Pheonix and Zakura.

Hi All!

Just finished a commission from Spacefunk record label to create there logo design & social network.

I'm really happy how it all came out....the logo design itself is a Gargantuan Galactic moth with an eternal searching for the light. The Social Network I created for them is still in its beginning of its journey, but is already looking really interesting. I decided to give it a spacey mysterious style & color scheme with a futuristic yet Retro funk feel.

Hi all,

Lately Nipponaisuki has been busy working away on a few new projects, one being as a type of Creative Director for an independent record label company, I've been assigned in creating there logo & branding identity and designing there social network and web identity. Will be posting previews and links soon.

Also really happy to be releasing a new Nipponaisuki artwork piece I have been working on for awhile..

New artwork is entitled: Deadly Technique Kunoichi
(Kunoichi means "Female Ninja warrior")

I've been playing around with creating a new level of detail, using 3 new art programs especially to create this piece...I'm very happy how it came out, especially the calligraphy created by my trusted calligrapher partner and part of the Nipponaisuki family Hiroko-Fukuda of Wakoshi in Japan.
I am still working on finding the right translation but The main Kanji translates somewhere along the lines of: "Deadly technique" is inside mind..Real kunoichi have to die her life before she can kill other party..
Obtaining deadly technique is not in the weapon...but the minds intent !!!!

The Hiragana messege reads something like: *to live is being dead for Kunoichi life

The calligraphy messages incorporated into the Tanto (Sword case) and leg reads: Deeply Pray for other party who kills

Japanese say Kanji and Hiragana calligraphy have a soul, so this design is a kind of good-luck charm, an artwork piece to inspire your everyday life
Life can be seen as a battle, an opponent you must defeat, so a confused mind does not hold a deadly technique, deadly technique is through the minds intent.
We can approach life with a kind of Kunoichi's deadly intent.

I will be making this artwork available as an A3 limited edition artwork print and will be creating some new merchandise with my new designs, so keep an eye out in this post!

Hi all!

Just a little update letting you know whats happening in the world of Nipponaisuki, recently been working on a Record label logo commission and new artwork to be released soon plus loadz more....

Right now in London we're in Cherry blossom season!!

Here are a few pictures of Nipponaisuki's Sakura tree in the garden.

Its becoming a quite a big tree with such beautiful Sakura blossoms!

And soon after the blossoms fall it has the juiciest full Cherry fruits!

Updating you all on one of the projects I've been slaving away creating...I've just released a new range of Nipponaisuki mixed media canvas artworks!

Because I'm a digital artist at heart, I have merged my love of digital media with hand painted techniques to create a series of what I think are a collection of unique and visually delicious artworks, that hold a handpainted one-off value while still revealing Nipponaisuki's trademark of delicate amount of detail and gradients mixed with bold colors.
Here you can see the collection of artworks I have created....each one has been lovingly created with the objective of making them as unique and visually yummy as possible. The artworks are created using mixed media on canvas. The paintings are carefully hand painted using acrylic, inks and metallic and iridescent paints to give the highlight effects and metal details a unique and striking feel, all while being mixed with latest in digital printing techniques! This mixing of media and technique pushes and lovingly embraces the confines of art and technology with more artists soon to follow suit.

Here you can see my "Blueprint electronic" piece that holds a really modern, cyber-futuristic feel
This artwork of my original character Yumiko....this piece has a very cool quality about it, with metallic painted highlights on the hair and sword giving the piece a real extra dimension.
This piece of my original character based on Inari (Kitsune) of Japanese mythology has been painted using iridescent paint giving the piece and calligraphy a mild glowing quality that adds to the spiritual undertones of the piece and calligraphy message.

This is the piece of my original character inspired from the old Japanese tale "Tsuru no ongaeshi (The grateful Crane)"...I used iridescent paints for the snow effects and gold leaf metallic paint on the cloth detail.

The Navigator CD artwork!!

Hi all my little assassins!

Just posting up preview pics of CD artwork I've done for "The Navigator"....this guy's beats are raw, street urban but with a soulful touch and an inspired mix of styles.

The commission was for his new album, out the be released soon (date to be confirmed) The artwork is street urban, futuristic yet with a ancient tone and representing influences that are present in his music.

The backside sleeve I've collaborated with Calligrapher Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi to design artwork with a deep message of the concept of the Navigator in a chaotic world.

The album will be on sale soon and will post up links there might be some special promotion editions being produced so keep an eye out for them.

Hi everyone!!

Hope you've been having a good start to the new Year!!
Its been awhile since my last post, mainly cause I've been busy with commissions and exciting projects I'm creating.

Ok have a piece I've been working on ready to release!
It was originally a painting I did a while ago but been wanting to re-do it as a digital piece...so I completely started from scratch and re-worked it, adding calligraphy created especially for the piece by amazingly talented Hiroko-Fukuda of Wakoshi...
The calligraphy reads within translation: "Riding to the dream"
and the front sticker reads: "One chance-one meeting" with connections to philosophy and tea ceremony.

This is a more personal piece with the message of looking toward new age--pushing towards accomplishing dreams and appreciating the moment now.

The character is part of a complex story I have started creating which involves many of my characters. She is the assassin "White Tiger"...which co-incidentally coincides with this new age being year of the Tiger!

This year has seen Nipponaisuki receiving some great and exciting exposure, being featured in illustrious magazines, winning competitions and being part of the most exciting and geekiest events (heheh you know I secretly love it!) and breaking the boarders and selling artwork in Tokyo, as well as collaborations with Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi in Japan and also some great things to be expected in the creative pipeline!!

So what better way to bring in the new year in with some more great tasty announcements for the Nipponaisuki war flag!! Hi Everybody!

Just had confirmation of more great news!

Nipponaisuki Art print is being sold on TagBoat Japan....for those that don't know "Established in October 2003, @ Gallery Tagboat is Japan's largest online galleries and is currently angaged in sales and purchase of contemporary arts. It deals with 1,300 works, including print art, painting and photographs, ranging from representative works of international famous artists to those of young Japanese artists".....I will be selling artworks next to some of the artists I've admired such as Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami, Chihi Aoshima, Mariko Mori, Andy Warhol, Damian Hurst, Yoko Ono, Aya Takano, David Hockney, Roy Lichenstein as well as many new and fresh emerging artists!!

So exciting to see Nipponaisuki being included with these artists! Heheh

Ok so those that have been following my Blog and Nipponaisuki, I have some grateful news to announce.......some of you may or may not know I have been pushing Nipponaisuki as my artist name, a brand and a style range...not to mention trying to create some of the damn coolest products I can, as well as producing limited and special edition merchandise for everyone that enjoys my work.

Hi everyone!

Ok I'm sure most of you have been wondering where the hell I've been! Heheh...but rest assured, when it is that I go silent in my updates its cause there's so much happening behind the scenes and have some juicy events and announcements to make!

last post we saw my exciting break into the Tokyo art scene with my limited edition prints and in keeping with this theme I have some more suupa exciting newz!!The other day I helped celebrate the launch of the new LAMINATE magazine.....and if your wondering if im talking about an Uber cool, Tokyo fresh meets London cool magazine....then yes, its exactly that!LAMINATE is a magazine that dedicates itself to fresh and acclaimed creators from the Uk-Japan- Art-design-Fashion fields and pretty much mixing all three together, with its main focus bridging the distance between London and Tokyo creatives.

What a great platform that is for Nipponaisuki to have artwork featured in its launching issue!

I had to get all the approval but managed to get a preview shots of my artwork in the magazine especially to post up for all of you!

I'm so happy how the artwork works with the magazine as a whole and represents the UK-Japan Illustrative element with my artworks showcasing my collaboration with amazingly skillfull Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi who has become an exciting part of Nipponaisuki's run up. The artworks selected for the magazine are "Kitsune" "Grateful Crane" "Spirited Akemi"...these are my more traditional Japanese inspired pieces that I feel sit so well with the traditional /modern Tokyo fashion and design elements!

The artworks are being sold as part of my collaboration with calligrapher Hiroko Fukuda from Wakoshi and so excited to see my artwork selling in there retail store in Tokyo and there online store!

This is a project I've been working on for a while thanks to the help of Wakoshi, aswell as doing other projects, I'm so excited its all official and up and out there!

Art-meter is a great concept retail and online art-store selling artworks by professional artists aswell as amateur and prices each artwork by measurement rather than name status, there ethic is to provide peoples lives with one-off pieces of art to be available to everyone!

Nipponaisuki merchandise update and spotlight!

Hi everyone!

This is a special update and spotlight on the many pieces of Nipponaisuki merchandise I've created and made available.

Recently I realised I haven't shown my merchandise in detail, so as I'm beginning a new phase, I wanted to highlight some of the products I've created carrying the Nipponaisuki mark, plus I've had to have a major restock, which as most of my products are hand made or self designed, I've been able to play around and have some new versions of merchandise!

I will add links to the product names so you can order all the pieces you see on my Official Nippponaisuki store!

So to start off, these are my new series of merchandise featuring my collaboration with the amazingly talented calligrapher Hiroko Fukuda from Wakoshi, the merchandise range from my greeting cards, limited edition prints, greeting/postcards and keyrings!
I have a full set showing all 4 artworks that are currently part of our collaboration, you can order them here

Here we see the reverse side of my greeting cards, notice the new addition of the Nipponaisuki logo adorned on the back of the cards! Plus they come with a really funky handmade sticker that has a silver authenticity logo! You can imagine how much time goes into just the packaging & presentation, let alone the designs themselves
These are my high quality postcards still within the calligraphy collaboration range These postcards have such a high quality finish! I think these designs are some of my favourites from my products, they look really tradition, almost woodblock print, but still futuristic and neo funky!

Here's a quick look and the new range of Keyrings that I've statred to release! These are good large funky size and the calligraphy on reverse adds a real unique touch I think.

Ok now is some examples of my special and Limited edition prints....these limited edition prints look amazing and so happy with the calligraphy created especially for my artwork that adds a special spice element to the pieces.

Each one of my prints come with a limited edition authenticity sticker, plus the edition number and Nipponaisuki Hanko stamp.

Ok so that was the range of pieces as part of my collaboration, here is a spotlight on my main merchandise made using most of my artwork!

First off is my special range of greeting cards

Here is my specially made greeting cards have been selectively designed and come with really nice gold envelopes, you can find them all available on my online shop!...I've been through a long process of finding the right cards, which are ofcourse blank as standard, so they can be used for all occasions and have a great new funky logo on the reverse and special hand made, authenticity sticker on the back, plus the really high quality gold envelopes makes them a great gift for special occasions or to give something that stands out. My greeting cards come in a full range of my artworks but are made in limited numbers so there are'nt going to be many of each design as new artworks and versions are created. Here is a look at my postcards! These are have become really popular, they are created as little art pieces themselves for people that just like having postcards up like I do of there favourite artwork or for people wanting a piece of affordable artwork...(>.>) oh I guess you could write on the back and send them too!..heheh There made using very high quality thick cards and I'm really happy with the quality and finnish these little postcards have! there high gloss laminated, unlaminated reverse. Usually I sell out of all my postcards at events so I have posted my new rnage up before I go to the upcoming MCM Expo so be sure to order the ones you want before there all gone! Ok now i think its time for my range of bookmarks! I'm a really big fan of these and they was actually created as I needed bookmarks myself, as I read alot and thats when my Nipponaisuki bookmark range was born! These are made small and unique with a selective length ribbon so they are great for graphic novels, large artbooks and small manga's and ofcourse regular books with just text inside heheh. They come in a wide range of my artworks and are never really the same as they are adorned with varying complimenting ribbon that I've ordered for different parts and even picked up on my travels! They all have been personnaly hand stamped on the reverse with my artists Hanko seal to show uniqueness and emphasize each one is painstakingly handmade and pakaged by myself. Ok now here is a spotlight on my keyrings that are newbie's to the Nipponaisuki range! I'm currently experimenting with slight different ways to present them, currently I have a full range of artworks on offer, with a nicely designed reverse thats either calligraphy or the Nipponaisuki Kamon logo! Any requests can be made with these as they are partly self made and I personnaly have a bunch of them on my own keys...(>.>) maybe too many as they don't fit in my pocket no more heheh.

Next up in the spotlight is my lovingly made limited edition prints!! These have come a long way since my idea for affordable limited edition artworks, that, as a digital artist reproduce my artwork with alot more texture and vibrancy and almost spiritual deep tones, which if you've seen one up close, you'll feel what I'm saying, these are truly unique and eye catching prints and I am proud to have them as part of my Nipponaisuki Limited edition range. These prints are made with highly renewable bamboo fibre and are extremely high quality artpaper that give these prints a real luxury and unique finish. So there was a quick run through of the different pieces my artwork comes on, all are made by myself in one form or another and they have gone through a long process to get to the high quality and finnish they have.

Nipponaisuki is Eco-friendly!!

Hi everyone!

I know its been a while since a recent update after the Matsuri festival, but rest assured this is because I've been really busy with some new commissions and working on a few exciting projects that include, CD, T-shirt, toy design as well as some personal projects I'm doing and of course new Nipponaisuki artworks, plus I have the MCM expo coming soon on the 24-25 Oct, where I will be selling my artwork and merchandise and so far this is the only event that I do personal manga portraits for all the people and cosplayers!!

Last year was really nerve racking experience as thousands of people crowded round watching me draw, but I soon got into the swing of things and was such an amazing experience drawing people dressed as manga and street fighter characters!!

So these are the projects I've locked myself away doing lately which I will be posting about soon (alittle inside note, the t-shirts are looking hot! can't wait from them to be out), but also I wanted to update you all on a piece ethics that has always been a core part of Nipponaisuki, but not till I mentioned it recently to someone did I realise few people knew....which is that most of the artwork and merchandise I produce, either comes from sustainable resource's or a percentage contributes to protection of environmental projects, so to all of you lovely people that have bought cards, bookmarks, limited edition prints, not only do you own art that has been lovingly produced, but also you have been helping our Earth and I hope giving the artwork good energies.

So here is some of the points that I'm happy to announce about Nipponaisuki!

Nipponaisuki limited edition bamboo fiber art prints actively supports the ideologies of the "green-rooster" campaign, which are the suppliers of my much loved limited edition print paper, where the company's initiative states:

"For the last 425 years, clean water and natural fibres have represented the foundation for our success. Without these raw materials, producing our fine papers would be just impossible. Therefore, we felt a special responsibility for our environment and founded the Green Rooster initiative. This encompasses our campaign for ecological paper production and the development of resource saving papers. These are easily recognised by the green sticker attached to all the initiative products. Ok next up is Nipponaisuki's handmade bookmarks and business cards that are made from thick heavy weight quality paper that is sourced from sustainable forests!

Next up is Nipponaisuki's special edition greeting cards, these are made from paper that is 10% recycled post-consumer fiber, and acid and elemental chlorine free, as well as a donation of every card given to charity. My greeting cards come with such amazing gold envelopes that I think adds a really special feel to the artwork and of course to the experience of receiving them, so I will be also adding another option for recycled envelopes when I find the right ones.Lastly is Nipponaisuki packaging, I try to use recycled and environmentally friendly paper and try best I can to re-use bubble wrap, and card that came with supplies or I have sourced from places.

So hope you liked my little update into Nipponaisuki's ethics as a brand and obviously I wish I could more, but I am and will constantly try to make my artwork with the most environmentally friendly ways I can.

Japan Matsuri event 09!!

Hi everyone!
What a great time I had at the "Japan Matsuri" held in London Spitafields market!!

It was an intense build up in the days leading up to the festival, with creating and organising all the artwork, hand making all the bookmarks and keyrings and trying my best with the quality of presentation. I really hope people enjoyed the space and my artwork.

Want to say thankyou so much to everyone that was interested in my work and especially those that bought prints, cards, keyrings and even limited edition prints, I hope you enjoyed the art pieces you bought and they have been given loved good homes!

Here is a picture of the setting up of my space....the days & nights before was spent creating everything so the morning of the festival I was running on pure excitment for being there and having my work shown.
The organizers of the event gave all the winning artists an A1 print of our artwork to put in our space, which made a really nice addition and was great to see my grateful crane artwork blown up on to a bigger size print.

There was a great turn out of people and happily I was unable to leave my stall for most of the day, luckily I had people taking photos for me to capture the event.

Everyone there seemed really interested in my artwork which always just inspires me to create

what I do even more and was so happy people was interested in the story's behind the characters.

I feel really grateful to announce mostly all of my artwork SOLD OUT at the event, even the many numbers of prints I brought and hand made pieces in preparation for the event!!

I will be doing a major restock and have also made it FREE P&P for all my A3 & A4 special/ limited edition prints in my online shop for those that where unable to get hold of a print!

After we backed everything up and carried all our baggages I went for a meal to the only place still open with good friends and fellow artists that where also part of the event! The food and great company was a welcomed addition after an eventful inspiring filled day!

Oh greats news!!

My Grateful Crane entry has been announced as one of the winning entries!

So excited I get to be part of the Japan Matsuri happening soon on the 19th Sept here in London!

I've had alot of great response from people about my entry which is really great and makes me so inspired and happy to hear! (^-^)

Now that my entry has been chosen, there will be A1 posters of my artwork posted around the festival as well as a stall and an exhibition!

I am planning to produce really special limited edition A3 prints of my Crane artwork especially for the event, so keep posted for news and updates I have on this.

Most of the people I know envolved in Japanese arts such as calligraphy, original Japanese prints sellers ect and people I know, all have mentioned they'll be having a stall there, so think its gunna be a real treat for a dose of authentic Japanese culture and great food and atmosphere!

Hi all!

This is a quick post about the awesomness of the talented artists Yuki Lamb (from Umisen Yamasen) and Zarina Liew (from Colbalt cafe) that have also submitted art to the Japan matsuri art competition!

This is Yuki Lamb's entry!

Just love the use of colors and the effects representing the Moon and bamboo in the background! (>.<) plus there's something so sweet, elegant and good natured about this piece that carries the feel of the story. Next up is Zarina Liew's entry! This piece is amazing! Zarina's work is always so delicate and detailed, just love all those details in the kimono, patterns and landscape......you can even see the house with the old couple that she's flying out from!

All the entries for this competition have been great and hope everyone does well.....Last day of voting is end of 5th Sept (^.^)...so if you hav'nt already put in a vote, there's still a tiny bit of time!

Hi All

The voting has started for a submission I entered for the upcoming Japan Matsuri beeing held in London Spitafields market this September 19th...The winning Artists will get there submissions posted around the event and enter an exhibition with the winners.....so please check out my work and vote for the best one!

The entry was inspired by the old Japanese tale "Tsuru no ongaeshi (The grateful Crane)"

This artwork is a very special piece that is part of my Japan-Uk collaboration with famous calligraphy Hiroko Fukuda of Wakoshi, the collaboration is mixing our unique and special talents together, crossing boundries from UK to Japan and across time from traditional Japanese calligraphy to modern digital illustration. I tried to create something more than just a poster for this first official Japanese Matsuri celebration held in London, to create something with deeper meaning aswell.

The translation for the beautiful calligraphy made especially for the artpiece reads something like:

Tsuru (a Crane)

Hibiki au tamashii (souls which echoing eachother)

"Hibiki au" is the verb to "to echo each other". Its a poetic expression used to depict somewhat deeper communications between people.

"Tamashi" means "souls"

Well this a sooner update than I thought, but wanted to tell you all about a new Deviant art account I set up... Those not familiar to the Deviant art site, you will be able to check out my artwork, leave comments, plus aswell as this blog, find out how I do my work.

I am quite late in joining the trend but so far the response from posting up my artwork has been really great and the site has alot of creative people interested in art and artist themselves which make for a great atmosphere.

Hi everyone!

Just updating you all on some new happenings in the Nipponaisuki world....first is a unique Japanese competition Nipponaisuki has entered that I will post up images once its officially recieved and voting starts....so excited bout that, can't wait to see how it does.

Also wanted to let people in on a insight to my creative process and as I've been rearranging my intimate studio I thought I'd let you see some Nipponaisuki ref material and favourite artbooks I draw inspiration on when I'm about to start a new piece.

Here is a photo of most of my ref and artbooks, I did'nt really realise how much I have, but its all a valueble part of my team.

Included is Kimono ref books from Japan, modern Japanese fashion magazines, old Ukiyo-e woodblock print artbooks, favourite artists artbooks plus a range of different book that help me create my artworks by just flicking through them and picking up on certain energies that I then give to my artworks.

Here is a selection of my favourite and most used books for inspiration.

There's artists Feebee's & Kim, Hyung-Tae Artbooks, traditional Japanese laquer ref book, Old woodblock print artbook and Battle Angel Alita manga that inspire me loadz.

I love this woodblock print book and get loadz of inspiration looking at old style artwork.
There is also my artists book by Feebee, I love just going over the pages and just drawing inspiration.
Well hope you enjoyed the lil insight into how I create my work, there's a whole lot more books that I've collected over the years but there's too many to list them all here. heheh

Hi all!

Nipponaisuki has just created his own myspace page!!

Been thinking about setting up this page especially for Nipponaisuki for a while and i'm excited how it turned out, people can check out my work and keep in contact as well as on my website & blog...so keep an eye for updates on this blog or on my new myspace page!

I had to muddle over the codes and play about with customizing it so hope you all like the look and enjoy going searching through it!

Special Japanese calligraphy collaboraton!

Hi all!

Here's a special and exciting post about a unique collaboration Nipponaisuki has with Wakoshi and famous and skillful calligrapher Hiroko Fukuda, who creates her own style of beautiful and kawaii kanji.

The collaboration has been a few months in the making and the details are, Juan-Carlos Cambon from Nipponaisuki and Hiroko san from Wakoshi, have come together in a very unique and special collaboration mixing there unique and special talents together, crossing boundaries from the UK to Japan and across time from traditional calligraphy to modern computer illustration. This unique collaboration is a celebration of art forms from accross the two countries and times, with the key focus in creating artwork that compliments each other, plus adding deeper meaning to the art pieces and creating a new artform from the love and skill of these two artists. The end result is something completely unique and special that embraces the feeling of traditional and modern and holds both artists philosophy and passion.

This is my piece entitled "Kitsune" which she created the calligraphy especially for, the main Kanji reads "Inari" ( I just love the way the bottom stroke looks like a fox's tail") after the name of one of the Japanese Kami or Gods in Japanese Shinto and Buddhist philosophy, who is said to be the patron of fox spirits who act as her messengers. Hiroko san also created a beautiful Haiku message thats within translation limits reads something like
"Good things from heaven
Good things from earth
Peoples kindness"
My other art piece entitled "Zakura", Hiroko san created the main kanji that reads "Sakura"....(you can really feel the twigs and blossoms energy within the calligrapy) and her Haiku message reads,
"Cherry blossoms bloom
and the dreams is full"

This piece entitled "Harajuku Pheonix" and is based on an original character I created that will soon be featured in a graphic novel I'm creating, Hiroko san created the calligraphy "Pheonix" (un-dying bird) with the message that reads.
"It lives through all eternity"

These pieces will be on sale as limited edition prints, aswell as plans that have been in the works for our designs and collaboration to be created on exslusive T-shirts and designer vinyl toys...YES I did say T-shirts and Vinyl toys of my characters!! (I don't know about you but I'm really excited!) ;) .....so keep and eye out in this blog for updates and exciting news on the progress and new collaboration pieces between Nipponaisuki and Hiroko san from Wakoshi.

Japanese Art Festival

Hi everyone!

Hope everyone had fun at the festival, the organisers said they tried to make this one even better which I think they did, Im sure I'm not the only one looking forward to the next.

I would like to say a really big thankyou to everybody that bought prints, bookmarks, greeting and postcards, manga portraits and especially for all the positive comments of support I recieved. I really apprieciate all the feedback I get and love talking to people out there that like my work and there was a good number of people who said they have my work up and framed....so great!!

Here's a pic of me at my table, I usually shy away and take most photos of my table without me in it as habit but I got convinced in this one Heheh

Japanese Art Festival! 11th-12th July 2009

Hi all!

Just a quick heads up on a great event happening on the 11th-12th July in Richmond.

If you hav'nt already heard about it, this is sure to be a fun event centered around Japanese artforms and culture. There will be tons of events happening at the festival aswell as great food, dealers and artist stalls!!

Be sure to check out Nipponaisuki's stall and get hold of some new items being released at the exhibition! I will put up a post with some of the new things I'll be having at the event.

There will also be the screening of the new Ghibli film "Ocean waves" so be sure to to miss that!

New Nipponaisuki artwork!!

Hi everyone!

Ok have some exciting things to share with you all, first off is now that Nipponaisuki has spent alot of time working on commissions and setting up his online shop/ blog.....it means Nipponaisuki now has some more free time to produce new work and hopefully get a preview of his new graphic novel that will be his heart and soul on a page, you can expect some of the best work by Nipponaisuki!

Which brings me onto a sneak preview. Here is a sketch of a character of Nipponaisuki's soon to be created graphic novel. Yeh, she's a bit of a twisted evil character that I felt will work really well with the story. Hope you like! I will keep you updated and post new sketches and sneak previews as they come.

Just thought I'd upload a screenshot of the progress of one of my new images. Hope you like, will be aiming to have the finished piece for the upcoming Japanese festival!

LUC 176 festival!!

At this event there will be "Free entry for the public, there are eighteen exhibitor tables featuring forty five of the UK’s top artists from the diverse worlds of webcomics, illustration, animation and comics. Nipponaisuki's shop is officially set up, online and ready to go!!!

This little stone I've been planning and working on for a while has finally turned into a little gem....can't wait for you lovely people to check it out.

In my new online shop, you'll have access to the whole range of Nipponaisuki limited edition prints, original paintings for sale, tons of hand made special edition merchandise, all with lovingly writen info and photos!! Nipponaisuki pre-sketches

Hi All!

Ok here is my first post showing some sketches of soon to come artwork aswell as some unseen pre-sketches for paintings I've been doing.

This first sketch is what started the concept for the painting "Shiroi Einjeru"...I really wanted to create another bike assassin character and had this angled composition in my head waiting to be used.

Here's another pre-sketch that was the start of the painting entitled "Silent Assassin"

This is heads up pre-sketch of a large A1 size canvas painting that's about to be started of my Zakura character, it might not look much now but I'm planning to use the same colour schemes and atmosphere as my digital artwork and try capture it in this painting.I will keep you all updated of the progress, plus "Shiroi Einjeru" and "Silent Assassin" will be made digital soon so keep an eye out for those.

All my paintings, limited edition prints and other goodies will be available in my new online shop that will be officially up in acouple of days, so watch this space! (>,@)r

Reading and sketching!

Hi all!

Just thought I'd share with you some random sketches I do whilst I am at work (>.>) yes most of my day involves reading manga/graphic novels and comics and sketching!! Oh and eating delicious sushi! Heheh. I guess its another one of those surrounding yourself in what you love that I seem to do alot.

To keep practicing my drawing and the energies flowing, while I read manga I really like I get too inspired by the artwork and have to draw the beautiful images I see and study them, so here a couple pages of sketches I do by looking at an image, then drawing from memory and almost challenging myself to draw the pose and feeling and refer back a little.

These sketches where done while reading the amazing manga "Purgatory Kabuki" by Yasushi Suzuki, as you can see it is more for practice. Hope you enjoy!

Nipponaisuki's Guy McKinley print!!

Hi all!

just thought I'd let you see a glimpse into the Nipponaisuki world. Recently I recieved my really awesome Guy Mckinley limted edition print I've been wanting to get for so long and honestly, its probably one of the coolest things I've seen!

The print is of one his characters called Yumiko and is from his "Japanese dead ghost girl warriors", the story goes Kichi, Aiko & Yumiko who lived in a ancient village that was destroyed by a warlord many years in the past, they fought off hundreds of samurai, but died in the process, the village treated them like saints and they was buried as warrior heroes, then years and years later in modern Tokyo, they are discovered and put into a museum, they are then resurrected to defeat a foe and end up alive living in modern Tokyo and they have to assimilate into the modern fashion, toys, gadgets ect (You can imagine Nipponaisuki excited eye's at first reading that).

The print is about A2 size and comes signed and is number 15 outta 50, here are some pics for you to see, had to pick it up from the post depot on the way to work cause I missed delivery and everybody I showed it to during the day had to stop and say "wow, thats cool!" so its even been field tested for coolness heheh.

One of my favourite bits is that the time on her watch says "now", I just love this tiny bit detail which gives it meaning. You can check out Mckinley's website here: http://www.guymckinley.com/

Tara McPherson signing!

Just thought I'd update my post and mention a few things Nipponaisuki has been inspired by, one being the Tara McPherson signing of her new artbook "lost constellations" that happened on the 11th june in London. Much like with with the artist Junko Mizuno, I wasn't a great fan of Mcpherson's work at first, but after seeing her designer toys she created with kidrobot I had to take a second look and the more you look and get into her style, the more subtle details start to pop out, and for me the best part is she has such a strong style and holds it in everything she does.

Nipponaisuki has collected signed artwork from many artists he has come into contact with, from very famous artists to the very unknown, I regard all artists and people really as equal so if I see a piece of artwork I love and inspires me and the artist is around, I like to get it signed and meet them, regardless of what "status" they hold as artists.

Here are a few artworks of Mcpherson that I really like and think hold nice messages!

The best part for me was when I was queuing up to get my artbook signed and I kept saying to myself, tell her to draw the skull flower, then meeting her I was so busy taking it all in I forgot, but then she just started drawing away, exactly the skull flower I had imagined, composition, size, everything and ontop she seemed a humble, nice person, so I was pretty happy!

Sweet tooth for designer toys!

Ok I have to admit I kinda have a sweet tooth for certain designer toys heheh.

To be honest I've heard lot of people outside the designer art movement not really understanding why people would get so hyped about a painted piece of sculpted plastic, but I personally see designer toys as a celebration of Creativity with there own personality!! (>.>) yeh I know..heheh. But really, there's nothing more inspiring for me than having a really well designed vinyl toy by a good artist sharing space with me when I'm trying to get inspiration for my next artwork, I remember someone wise told me "its good to surround yourself in what your interested in" and this was the reason I recently had to get Tokyo plastics Koguma vinyl release. Those that know me know I love Japanese aesthetics and Artists behind Tokyo Plastic have exactly that. When I first experienced there style many years ago, n I was like damm!..they got something.

It's so funky n cute but still neo futuristic, but in a traditional way, kinda reminds me a tiny bit of the direction im going with my own artwork. (Future collabroration maybe?)
